Interview Process
Online Assessment
April 10, 2025The Online Assessment consisted of two Data Structures and Algorithms problems. One problem was easy and based on the sliding window technique. The second problem was medium level and involved graph traversal using DFS or BFS.
In addition to coding questions, there were multiple non DSA sections including scenario based simulation questions, work style judgment questions, and personality based questions. These sections focused on decision making, prioritization, and behavior in real world SDE situations.
The assessment clearly showed that non DSA sections were equally important and could significantly impact the final outcome.
Technical and Behavioral Interview
April 25, 2025This round lasted for one hour. The first forty five minutes focused on solving two DSA problems. One problem was based on binary search and the other involved dynamic programming concepts.
The remaining time was spent discussing previous projects, tech stack, and behavioral questions. Questions included handling negative feedback, managing deadlines, and discussing the most challenging project worked on so far.
System Design and Technical Discussion
May 5, 2025Instead of a typical DSA round, this interview focused on design. The main task was to design a Java based library on Linux to search for files based on specific constraints.
The discussion was high level and focused on architecture, approach, and decision making rather than deep system internals. Project discussions were also included. This round lasted one hour.
There was a waiting period of two to three weeks after this round, which is common in Amazon interviews.
Hiring Manager Round
May 25, 2025This was a forty five minute discussion based round with the hiring manager. The focus was on previous work experience, team collaboration, ownership, and situational behavioral questions.
There were no heavy technical questions. The interviewer evaluated communication skills, decision making, and alignment with Amazon Leadership Principles.
Detailed Experience & Tips
The interview process started with an Online Assessment after applying through the Amazon careers portal. The OA tested both technical and behavioral skills. Even though DSA was important, the non DSA sections played a major role in progressing further.
The first interview round tested problem solving skills along with behavioral aspects. Clear communication and structured thinking helped a lot during DSA problem solving.
The second interview focused on system design, which was unexpected for an SDE 1 role. The key was to stay calm, think aloud, and explain design choices clearly rather than jumping into deep technical details.
The Hiring Manager round was more conversational and focused heavily on Amazon Leadership Principles. Preparing answers using the STAR method helped structure responses effectively.
Overall, patience was extremely important as there were gaps of one to three weeks between rounds. These delays are normal and should not be taken as a negative sign.
