Interview Process

1

Technical + HR Mixed

May 11, 2025

The interview began with a greeting and a quick self-introduction. I was then asked to solve a coding problem , swap two numbers without using a third variable. I explained my logic and solved it within a minute.

Next, the interviewer shifted to SQL. I was asked to write a query and then explain different types of joins (inner, left, right, outer, self). I gave clear definitions and use cases.

After that, the focus moved to my real-world experience. I described a feature I worked on in my company, covering the problem statement, solution, and technologies used. The interviewer listened carefully and asked a few clarifying questions.

He then asked about my projects. I mentioned three, but he didn’t go into details.

Finally, the discussion turned into HR-style questions like why I want to leave my current company, my notice period (60 days, possibly shorter), my favorite city, and hobbies.

The interview wrapped up with him saying he would share my details with HR.

Detailed Experience & Tips

My Cognizant GenC 2025 interview experience lasted around 15 minutes and was a mix of technical and HR questions.

The interviewer tested my problem-solving skills with a coding question (swapping two numbers without a temp variable).

He asked SQL queries and checked my knowledge of joins, which I answered confidently.

A major part of the interview was explaining a feature I developed in my company. This helped me showcase my hands-on experience and problem-solving approach.

I also talked about three projects I had done, though no follow-up questions were asked.

On the HR side, I was asked about my reason for leaving my current company, notice period, and some casual questions to check personality fit.

Throughout the interview, I maintained eye contact with the camera, spoke clearly, and kept my answers structured. The interviewer seemed satisfied with my responses and ended by saying he would pass my details to HR.

Tips for future candidates:

Practice basic coding problems like swapping, reversing, and patterns. Revise SQL queries and joins , they are frequently asked. Be ready to explain one project or feature in detail. Stay calm and confident , communication and presentation matter a lot.
